After calling at the Cape Verde Islands, the rally crossed the Atlantic to Barbados where the arrival of the Barbados 50 fleet was timed to coincide with the celebrations that started on 30 November 2016, the 50th anniversary of Barbados Independence.

The main starts of Barbados 50 were from London and Lanzarote (Canary Islands), although boats joined the fleet at other ports along the route.

The Barbados 50 Education and Outreach Programme linked school children in Barbados with classes in countries along the route.
