Participants in the Caribbean Odyssey are enjoying their Cape Verdes stopover

Welcome party for the Caribbean Odyssey participants hosted by Laura and Lutz Meyer-Scheel (in foreground) in Marina Mindelo’s floating bar.

The stopover in this welcoming marina was too short to sail across to the neighbouring island of Santo Antão; so all participants did the next best thing and visited the island by ferry.

Arrival at Porto Novo

Reputed to be the most beautiful island of the archipelago, the interior of Santo Antão is dominated by a large volcanic crater.

Elina, Cyliane and Timeo, the young crew of Olena are making friends with some locals.

A welcome lunch of local specialities

Back in Mindelo, Stéphane and Laure Chappuis of Olena, the largest boat in the fleet, hosted a prestart skippers’ briefing. This was followed by a party for all participants, the large cockpit easily accommodating some 24 adults as well as three children.

With all jobs done, the Caribbean Odyssey fleet is ready to embark on the 2020-mile leg to Barbados, starting on Thursday morning.
