English We are a Swiss family of five, having decided to make a pause in our lives and allow ourselves a voyage, of a length so far undetermined, on Olena, our Lagoon 470 catamaran.

Stéphane, 48, grew up on a boat on three lakes (Bienne-Neuchâtel-Morat). Laure, 44, during her childhood had the opportunity to sail on Lake Leman with her grandfather. Stephane has had his own boat in Switzerland since 1996, on which our three children grew up, Elina (11), Cyliane (7) and Timeo (5).

For our first major crossing, we decided to join the Atlantic Odyssey in order to profit from the expertise and experience of Jimmy Cornell (whom we met in a seminar in Switzerlands in 2016) and his team. Their support will give us more security for this family crossing. We will be joined in the Canaries by a friend, also a skipper, who will come and share this experience with us.

Gary Ballantyne & Ludmilla Kerstovitch Sandro

We have had Sandro in the Med for five seasons now, and would like to move onto the Caribbean, possibly as the first step in sailing home. We thought about shipping the boat across, but decided we would rather sail across and enjoy a trade wind crossing in tropical climes.

We also are keen to visit the Cape Verde Islands, and hence to join the Odyssey to sail with some support and have ‘a second eye’ look over our preparations.

Ludi named the boat after her late father who had a strong interest in our former yacht in Australia, and was always enthusiastic about our sailing adventures.

Jost & Susanne Knopp Serenity

Gianluca, Jost and Susan

2015 to spring 2017 we explored Greece and its Islands. Serenity has been our “Home” now since the beginning of this year.

We started in Porto Heli and sailed through Corfu, Italy, Sicily, Malta, Street of Messina, Sardinia, Corsica and the French/Spanish coast to Gibraltar. With the passage to Madeira and La Palma we collected our first bluewater-miles and are curious about the next step towards the Caribbean.

English We are Silvia and Jürgen from SY SINA, a Sunbeam 42 DS. The name ‘SINA’ is derived from the last capitals of the names from our family members.

We have been sailing together since we were students. We started with jolly-boats, later we chartered larger yachts and sailed a Bavaria 33 on the Bavarian ‘Sea’, the Chiemsee.

We left our home territory towards the northern part of Germany 6 years ago and discovered the Baltic Sea extensively since then with SINA. Now it is time to enjoy warmer regions. We started our voyage in June 2017 in the Baltic Sea, then via Kiel Canal to Helgoland. From there we sailed to England, France and over the Biscay to Spain, Portugal, and Madeira.

Eventually we have reached the Canaries in October. Participating in the Caribbean Odyssey CV we fulfill one of our long term dreams: Crossing the Atlantic on our own keel. We are very happy about the alternative to ARC, which fits perfectly to our time window. We are looking forward meeting the other participants of the Odyssey and exchange experiences. .

Jean-Yves Gourdon Tubalcain

Tubalcain is an OVNI 395 built in 2005 at the Alubat boatyard in Sables d’Olonne.

During the last three years we have sailed along the Atlantic coast of France. In 2008 we sailed with another boat, Vanille, to do the tour of the Mediterranean for several years.

At the end of this we went our separate ways but meeting up again, we finally decided to head for the Caribbean on board Tubalcain.

The crew will be made up of Françoise and Jean-Paul (Vanille), Simone and Jean-Yves (Tubalcain) as well as Dominique for the Atlantic crossing.

Charles Wilding & Fung Lai Wilderness

Wilderness was bought to fulfill our dream; to take a break in our careers and to travel and to see the world – what is passed the edge of the map.

We think the world is changing so rapidly we would like to see areas of the world before they become too developed.

Wilderness is named for a bible term, as the wilderness in the bible was a place of testing and transformation. Jesus, John, Moses, David, Samson – the bible has so many stories of people who went to the wilderness had some experience only to return a little bit different. This is what we hope the journey will be for us too.

Our crew to Cape Verde are fellow Open 40 owners our friends Mitch and Jenn. Our crew to Barbados is another cat sailor and CA member Robert.
