Atlantic Odyssey 2: Premières nouvelles

9 January 2015

German SUNRISE

SUNRISE waving the Atlantic Odyssey flag

DOUDOU waving good bye

LAHAINA

Goodbye La Palma. Captain and crew leave La Palma. Weather forecast is fine, but several of us are using Scopoderm and we have packed lunches. Thanks for a lovely atmosphere with the other boats and Cornells staff.

FINALLY MY DARLING

Today is the day we left for the crossing, it’s gusting 30kns and we are averaging 8kns over the ground with a 3m swell but nice and comfortable.

Just after I wrote the first paragraph we did a controlled jibed, but just after the jibe the sail tore right in half about 1.5 from the head. So engines on we motored round the bottom of la Palma into a nice marina in Puerto Tazacorte. I think this is going to be the best nights sleep we have had for a long time because there is no swell at all, it’s like being on hard stand.

NEPTUNE II and PENNY LANE, some of whose crew members had been confined to bed with flu, finally left Marina La Palma this morning within an hour of each other and are now sailing towards Martinique.

FINALLY MY DARLING, the Australian Lagoon, diverted to the port of Tazacorte on the west coast of La Palma having badly torn her mainsail while passing the southern tip of the island shortly after the departure.

DOUDOU
