Mark and Elizabeth Buxton S/V LOVESAIL
Mark and Elizabeth Buxton have been cruising their Lagoon 410 in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean since they purchased her, lying in Venice, in 2008.
“We always intended to sail the Pacific but it’s taken us a long time to get to this point. We learnt about the Pacific Odyssey in the local paper in Bequia of all places and that was the catalyst to get us going, so we signed up immediately. Although we’ve never sailed in a rally before, we share all the environmental goals of the Blue Planet Odyssey and welcome the security and assistance provided by Cornell Sailing on such a long voyage.
Our daughter, Lucy, is a marine biologist and she and her husband Craig decided to join us too. Lucy is taking a leave of absence from her work at University of Sydney and will be contributing to the Scientific and Educational programmes of the rally. Fortunately Lucy’s specialisation focuses on the impact of climate change on corals so we shall all be able to benefit from her knowledge.
Our final crew member will be Michael Morland who joins us for the leg from Martinique to Panama. The five of us crossed the Atlantic together.”

Norm Harlow and Klaudia Zayonc S/V TAHAWUS
Norm, Claudia and their sons Miro and Martin take drifter buoys onboard TAHAWUS
Norm Harlow is sailing his Amel 54 with wife Klaudia Zayonc and their two sons Miro (11) and Martin (9). The family has been living in upstate New York for some years and are now looking forward to cruising in warmer climates.
“Sailing around the world has always been on my bucket list,’ says Norm, ‘and it is great to be able to expose the children to this experience. Also I hate bureaucracy so having someone else deal with the Canal formalities is wonderful.”
