JCOMMOPS and NOAAIn partnership with the UNESCO’s Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, JCOMMOPS (the Joint Technical Commission for Oceanography and Marine Meteorology) and NOAA (the United States Government National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), yachts taking part in the Odyssey events will send back automated meteorological data and deploy Argo floats and surface drifters in areas not frequented by commercial shipping to gather information on ocean currents, sea surface temperature, atmospheric pressure, winds and salinity. |
