The first transatlantic rally to sail from the Canaries to the Caribbean after the winter holidays, and not at the usual time in November, was organised in January 2014. As we were unable to think of a suitable name for this new Odyssey, we decided to call it Atlantic Odyssey II as it followed a similar route across the Atlantic to the Atlantic Odyssey itself.
After three successful editions, the Atlantic Odyssey II has now become a regular event and the time has come for it to have its own identity. For this reason we have chosen the name the Caribbean Odyssey, which we hope will set it apart from our two other Atlantic events, the Atlantic Odyssey and the Islands Odyssey.
An important attraction of the Caribbean Odyssey, besides the fact that it starts later in the season when one can expect hopefully more consistent tradewinds, is that participants who arrive earlier to prepare for the start, will spend the winter holidays in Santa Cruz.
The festive season is a busy time in the capital of Tenerife that starts before Christmas and culminates with the Three Kings celebrations. This period is marked by a busy program of activities including a series of public concerts held on a large stage erected right by the marina where the boats are docked.
We have arranged for those who leave their boats for longer to be offered substantial discounts on the marina fees.
The Caribbean Odyssey is sponsored by the Port Authority of Tenerife and by Barbados Tourism Marketing.
