The three Barbados 50 boats that left Falmouth last Sunday have made a fast passage across the Bay of Biscay and arrived on Wednesday at La Coruña in Spain.
They were very fortunate in having favourable weather conditions during this notorious crossing, even if the north-easterly winds were stronger than predicted gusting occasionally at well over 30 knots.

The cruise of Lady Rebel and Stormbreaker, who had spent several months together in Falmouth while preparing for this voyage, have continued their close association sailing within sight of each other during he entire passage. Both made landfall at La Coruña at 10 a.m. local time and were followed four hours later by Maisie.

In La Coruña they were joined by the French catamaran Maryna 2 who arrived here are a few days earlier from Hendaye in south-western France. Another Barbados 50 participant currently also in La Coruña is the German catamaran Thetis.
The crews of Maisie, Maryna, Lady Rebel and Thetis…. Barbados 50 is slowly coming together.
La Coruña is undoubtedly the most popular landfall at the end of a successful crossing of the Bay of Biscay.
The four day stopover will allow the crews to relax and enjoy the attractions of this vibrant city, not to speak of its excellent Galician cuisine and wines.
