A little bit of Caribbean Sunshine in wintry London

Jimmy and Doina Cornell held another successful day’s seminar on transatlantic voyage planning at the Cruising Association headquarters in Limehouse London on Saturday 12 March.

The sessions combined theory with practical advice and a unique chance to visit Jimmy’s Aventura, docked in Limehouse fresh from her successful transit of the Northwest Passage in the summer of 2015.

Jimmy Cornell gives a practical demonstration of Aventura’s foredeck set up for downwind sailing.

Seventy six years old and still going strong! Jimmy shows off the collapsible mast steps.

Many of the seminar participants were still in the planning stages of their dream voyages, hoping to set off in the next few years, but several crews were already sailing or just ready to go.

Joining the group were participants in this year’s Barbados 50Maggie Drum, Witte Kreeft and Lady Rebel, as well as Bright Eyes which will sail in in the Atlantic Odyssey II in January 2017.

A informative day was finished off with a welcome taste of Caribbean sunshine thanks to delicious rum punches supplied by Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc which are sponsoring the Barbados 50 rally, part of the 50th year independence celebrations of the Caribbean island.

All that remains now is to sail across the Atlantic to sample some more!
