The inaugural Islands Odyssey came to a successful end this weekend as the boats left Barbados and headed the few miles to Martinique to meet up with the Atlantic Odyssey fleet as they assemble for the farewell party this evening. Beginning in Lanzarote back in October, the yachts have had a pretty epic and eventful voyage, sailing to all of the Canary Islands, on to the Cape Verdes, and finally making the Atlantic Crossing to a warm Caribbean welcome in Barbados.
Both the Government and the Barbados Yacht Club have been active in welcoming the boats and work is underway to build a small marina within the large commercial harbour ready for the Barbados 50 fleet in 2016.
In fact, the Barbados welcome was so good that ACES4 from the Atlantic Odyssey decided to make a detour specially to visit the island.
Pictures say more than words, however, so here are a selection.
Three of the Islands Odyssey yachts were delayed and will make their way directly to Martinique: Kwanza, Lufi of Guernsey and Velvet. Track their progress via our tracking map
