Ivan Cornell spent most of his childhood at sea and completed his first circumnavigation by the time he was eleven.

As an adult he has sailed thousands of miles as crew or skipper on a variety of boats in all oceans including two voyages to Antarctica.

He has a degree in computer science from University College London and has worked for the last twenty-five years in the film industry

Ivan applied his considerable skills as a programmer in constructing the website noonsite.com, the global source of information for cruising sailors.

Ivan is co-author of the Cornells’ Ocean Atlas – the result of an ambitious program he wrote to process the data obtained from a variety of sources – and of the second edition of World Voyage Planner.

He also set up the tracking system for all the Odyssey sailing events as well as that of Aventura IV.

Ivan sailed on Aventura IV from London to Greenland and streamlined all onboard systems in preparation for Aventura‘s Northwest Passage, continuing to provide technical support throughout her 2014 and 2015 expeditions.

Ivan’s passion for the sea has never left him and he is currently sailing a yacht he built himself.
