Blue Planet Odyssey participant takes scientists for a sail

Rick Lumpkin is at the wheel, Pablo Aguilera in the middle and Shaun Dolk on the starboard side of the boat.

On Sunday last, Blue Planet Odyssey participant Pablo Aguilera took Dr. Rick Lumpkin, NOAA (National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration) Oceanographer, and his colleague Shaun Dolk for a sail off Key Largo on his Beneteau Oceanis 40 ODYSSEA.

With winds of 15 to 20 knots, they had a great sail and then anchored out for a barbeque.

Pablo has really gone out of his way to bring the scientific program forward for Blue Planet Odyssey and his contacts with Rick and Shaun, based at the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory, in Virginia Key, Florida, have been key to developing the project to deploy drifter buoys from Jimmy Cornell’s own AVENTURA IV when he transits the North West Passage in the summer of 2014.
