{"id":30584,"date":"2015-09-02T13:38:43","date_gmt":"2015-09-02T13:38:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/cornellsailing.com\/2015\/09\/ambrym-back-roots-bpo-2\/"},"modified":"2015-09-02T13:38:43","modified_gmt":"2015-09-02T13:38:43","slug":"ambrym-back-roots-bpo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cornellsailing.com\/fr\/2015\/09\/ambrym-back-roots-bpo\/","title":{"rendered":"Ambrym: Back to My Roots for the BPO"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A stroke of convenient timing meant that the\u00a0<em>Blue Planet Odyssey<\/em>\u00a0cruise through\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cornellsailing.com\/sail-the-odyssey\/destinations\/vanuatu\/\">Vanuatu<\/a> was able to include a visit to Ambrym, and a chance to experience the 3 day <em>Back to My Roots<\/em> festival which has been put on by the village of Olal for the past 15 years.<\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 610px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/cornellsailing.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/Ambrym-13.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Blue Planet Odyssey sailors with the festival chiefs and dancers &#8211; Photo: Klaudia Zayonc<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Visitors are welcome to come and watch, but the festival is first and foremost a local celebration.<\/p>\n<p>Men who wish to advance up the ladder of chiefly gradings can pay money and pigs in order to be &#8216;promoted&#8217;, and a series of traditonal rites take place over the festival days.
