At noon on Wednesday in a light NE breeze the yachts took the start on the first leg of the\u00a0 Canaries Odyssey, bound for Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria. The French monohull Balanec<\/em> stole the show from the two catamarans, the Australian La Mischief<\/em> and French Jiyu<\/em> by being the first across the line. Several boats hoisted their colourful spinnakers that showed up spectacularly against the stark panorama of the volcanic island.<\/p>\n
