Aventura IV’s Logs

Passing Baffin Island

Yesterday we finally escaped the grip of Lancaster Sound and reached the
open sea. We are now sailing past Baffin Island with icebergs dotted
about around us, but easy to avoid.

The coastline is spectacular and clearly visible at over 40 miles with
high snow-clad mountains and huge glaciers several miles wide disgorging
icebergs into the sea.

The sun has just come up and it is a brilliant morning.

We are close reaching at seven knots in ten knots of wind with our
light-weather Code Zero sail and are bound for Nuuk the capital of
Greenland with 600 miles to go.
